A perfect shot or a reconnection?
I watch the waves waiting for the perfect shot to go with an essay I'm working on.
Little waves roll in but nothing spectacular.
And then I paused and put the phone away.
Sitting here is not about getting the perfect shot. It's a chance for me to reconnect with the water.
Just as I put my phone away, I see a small swell rolling towards the rocks. "That will be perfect," I think as I start to reach for my phone.
But I stop and leave it in my pocket and watch.
The small swell rolls up over the first rock, gently lifting the dangling seaweed.
It swirls into the next rocks now peppered dark and light with water and bubbles tumbling together.
And then a quickly as it lifts, the water falls away.
Spilling out of the crevices and back into the sea.
It's calming to watch and listen as the waves return again and again. Each the same and yet completely unique.
And me there to see and feel and wonder and record in my senses.
