Small Changes

I almost didn't go on my morning walk today...

It was definitely cold, but I'm so glad I went.

These walks give me a few minutes to pause and reflect and gather my thoughts before jumping into each day.

I also recently changed up my walk in a minor way but this was the first morning it paid off.

What was that change? I went the opposite direction.

Still the same loop, still the same time, still the same me, I just walked counter-clockwise instead of clockwise.

The first time I did it felt really weird. A familiar place rendered so different by a simple change. At one point I almost convinced myself I took a wrong turn even though I knew I couldn't have.

But this morning it paid off. I made the change in direction so I could face the sun instead of having it at my back. And it's amazing how that little change, especially this time of year, changed how I felt while walking.

Sometimes routine is good.

But sometimes little changes are good too.

New energy from similar effort.

New ways to approach the world.

New perspectives on the familiar.

So stay warm today, but enjoy the sun, and see if there's a little change that brings something new to the table for you.
